CCD Innovation Voices in the Industry - Fall 2019
A collection of our late summer and fall shared insights:
Food Engineering survey reveals consumer impacts – In its annual manufacturer survey in the October 2019 issue, Food Engineering learned Clean Label & Healthy Food demands from consumers continue to impact the industry. Kara Nielsen points out that people don’t eat regular meals as often as they did in the past, and when they do, their personalized needs come first, whether for weigh management, nutrition, or time demands.
Diet food brands Atkins & Quest Nutrition under one shingle – L.A. Business Journal reports on the purchase of Quest Nutrition. Kara Nielsen comments on how both Atkins and Quest address sugar levels in food by using sweeteners, with lower sugar being the higher-level trend compared to either individual diet plans the brands address.
Soup innovations target consumer trends – Food Business News reviews new soup products and soup trends. Convenient sipping cups and microwavable bowls, plant-forward soups highlighting vegetables, legumes and grains, and more globally inspired soup styles are all trending. CCD Innovation shared sightings of posole, pho and ramen in restaurants, all soups that allow diners to customize their bowls with different toppings, sauces and mix-ins like radishes and raw cabbage for Mexican posole.
